Past Week’s Jams

Yo yo yo. Its your boy viceray. I guess I am the resident music guy here at ricks radio, but you may see features from other people. I will be discussing any and everything that I want to regarding music that’s just too long to put in a tweet. My goal on this platform is to get my pensive yet useless knowledge into the universe. Tune in if you’re interested—you might learn and love something new. Maybe you find music you hate. Who cares? It’s all about the experience.

“This Past Week” is a weekly series of four songs that really stood out to me. Rather it’s new, or been in rotation forever, it’s simply just shit that really hit this past week.

1. Darkest Before Dawn 

I found BashfortheWorld from a clip of Joey Bada$$ playing one of his songs (below) and I literally thought it was Playboi Carti or some shit. The song he was jamming in his 911 was Bash’s song 50-0 (fucking fire song) and instantly threw on the album: Me Myself and I. If the Carti SoundCloud era resonated with you, I highly recommend this album. Yes, Bash does it differently, but I can’t help but remember and feel the same joy from listening to Carti back in 2015-2017. Also, shoutout to him being from Texas.

I am such a sucker for horns on a rock song. I can’t say I’ve ever listened to one that I didn’t like, and this song is no different. Although it sits at an average length of 2 minutes, it feels like a quick in and out…but damn, if it isn’t so lovely. Not a word is spoken and frankly, it doesn’t need one. Hearing this makes me feel like I’m lost somewhere in the Midwest, sad as fuck. With that being said, I’d definitely listen if you’re in to any math rock band i.e., American Football.

3. O, The Blood!

Puma blue is an artist I’m really excited about because this guy knows jazz and does it very well with a voice that uniquely rivals any R&B singer out right now. This is his third album, and he hasn’t missed yet. Being that he’s from across the pond, I’m really kicking myself for not seeing him when he was in town. You can just tell he would be great live. This is such a sexy song that you can’t help but nod your head to.

4. Neighborhood

Teezo Touchdown’s latest album has received a lot of mixed reviews, but personally I love it. This is one of my favorite songs from it and the melody is just so fucking perfect. It makes me feel like a summer evening in, well…the neighborhood. I really want to share the story in the song, but I’d rather encourage you to listen and digest it for yourself. Nothing too deep, it’s just a fun and eccentric song, a common theme for the album. Also, shoutout to him for being from Texas.
